Police have strongly condemned the violence meted on a boda boda rider by legendary Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said in a statement to the media that Chameleone’s action was wrong and that he should be punished.
“As police, we condemn the act and we have taken it as a serious matter because a musician has to be an example to other people by showing good manners. Even though the boda man has not reached out to us to file the case, we already ordered the OC of that area where the incident happened to look for the rider and also record the witnesses’ statements,” Onyango said.
Chameleone’s Public Relations (PR) team released a statement about the viral video, claiming that the incident happened last year when a reckless rider rammed into Chameleone’s Range Rover as he drove to his home.
“On the morning of Thursday, November 17, 2022, an uncomfortable incident involving a boda boda rider and Jose Chameleone escalated as Chameleone was driving back to his home in Seguku, where a reckless rider rammed into his Range Rover, leaving the left side of it scratched,” singer’s PR team said.
Viral video
Chameleone was caught on camera hitting a boda boda rider with a stick after he was involved in a minor accident with him.
The legendary singer acted with brute force after the boda boda rider scratched his pricey Range Rover Autobiography.
In the video, Chameleone is getting out of the British machine to confront the boda boda rider before an argument ensued.
The singer was allegedly accusing the rider of hitting his Range Rover, according to the voices in the video.
Chameleone then got hold of a stick which he used to hit the boda boda rider multiple times.
Another rider’s voice in the video is heard saying: “You Chameleone, that boda guy has not knocked, and you’re caning him for nothing.”

Range Rover Autobiography
Chameleone was gifted the Ksh23 million Range Rover Autobiography 2020 in September 2021 by President Museveni’s younger brother Sedrack Nzaire Nowomugisha Kaguta alias Toyota.
The British machine was a gift to Chameleone for defecting from Bobi Wine’s party National Unity Platform (NUP) to rejoin the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Museveni’s brother Mr. Toyota witnessed the handover of the UBJ 415D Range Rover Autobiography to Chameleone in an elaborate ceremony.
During the handover, noted that he has always been a loyal NRM member, but admitted he went astray by joining Bobi Wine’s camp.
“Mr. Toyota, I’m still your friend, I’m still your family. I’m still NRM, I’m not NUP. If you doubt that, put up your cameras and record that on me. I’m still N.R.M,” Chameleone assured the Museveni’s brother.
Chameleone further dismissed Bobi Wine’s NUP which denied him a flag bearer ticket as he vied for the Kampala City mayorship in the January 2021 general polls.
