Nigeria inches to best Commonwealth medal haul
Nigeria is just one gold medal away from having its best outing in history after winning its 11th gold medal at the ongoing Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Nigeria has competed at 15 Commonwealth Games from 1950.
Nigeria did not attend four Games, in 1962, 1978, 1986 and 1998.
Nigeria has won at least one medal at every Games, including a high of 37 in 1994 when it won 11 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals in Victoria, Canada.
The first medal in 1950 was won by Joshua Majekodunmi in the High Jump.
So far in its 15th appearance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, it has won 11 gold, eight silver and 14 bronze medals.
Three Nigerians are in finals of their events with Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro competing in the women’s long jump while Elizabeth Oshoba will compete against Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh in final of the women’s featherweight boxing later on Sunday.
