AKA Explains How ‘Jealousy’ Became An Early Foreshadow To His Succesful Career. AKA has demonstrated throughout his career that he has a knack for choosing top-notch samples. The rapper has demonstrated his ability to reimagine appealing songs for the interests of his audience by straddling genres including dance music, jazz, and house.
Building up the momentum for the release of his highly anticipated Mass Country album, the rapper took to Twitter and shared the production focus on one of his classic tracks ‘Jealousy.’ The Super Mega took time to explain how the song impacted his successful rap career.
“For me, this is one of those songs that I did start to finish, nose to tail, like from the sample,” he said. “I’m very much into dance music, like house, European, and all these South African classics, all of that stuff, that’s my sh*t, I love that sh*t right.“
AKA further explained how dance music went on and inspired Jealousy one of his early songs in his SA hip hop career. “As a coloured person, I really grew up with dance music and house music so dance music is always a cue for me,” he said.
He added; “so I chopped that thing head to tail, a sneak little choppy if you listen to Jealousy that’s one of my early records, I think that’s on Alter Ego, probably my first album I think, I’m not sure. You can hear I’m just working on footy loops, this is before me I started knowing musicians and started knowing Zadok, Mpilo and everybody else who could give meat to the bones of my sampling.”
AKA did not shy away to mention that Jealousy was the song that kickstarted the success of his career mostly by improving his sampling in music. “It was an early glimpse of the brilliance that would come to be my career,” he concluded.
With all focus on his album release, the Super Mega is yet to announce when his album will become available as we heard towards the end of the year.
