Gigi Lamayne Debuts Own Shoe Line
Gigi Lamayne Debuts Own Shoe Line. Hip-hop and fashion are inextricably linked, so it’s not surprising to see South African rappers dabbling in fashion to support the culture. Cassper Nyovest, K.O, and Boity are among the rappers who are heavily involved in the fashion industry.
The latest SA rapper to venture into the fashion business is Gigi Lamayne. The award-winning rapper has made history as she becomes the first female rapper to launch a shoe line. The “Fufa” singer has collaborated with Rock and Co footwear to release a line of fashionable shoes.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Lamayne explained that this partnership is particularly meaningful to her since it honours both her mother, who grew up without shoes and the South African brand with which she is partnering.
“My mom grew up very poor. She had her first pair of shoes when she was seven and didn’t even know which shoe went on which foot. For her to witness her daughter getting into this is the biggest joy,” she said.
The rapper also stated that she is pleased to have ownership in the shoe line because she has seen fellow rappers who own brands but do not have equity. “We’ve seen artists collaborating with brands, but you don’t see equity. Brands can change their minds. With us, this is pure equity. Every time a shoe is sold, I get money from it,” said Gigi Lamayne.
Gigi Lamayne also emphasized how important it is for her to be working with Rock and Co. because it is the same company that collaborated with Kwesta. “This is the same brand that worked with Kwesta, so for them to trust me that much with their brand is a huge thing,” said Gigi.
It’s been a successful year for Gigi Lamayne, the rapper who recently launched his own podcast, which has received a lot of attention from her fans. The Set In Stone singer has also been nominated for Best Female at the upcoming South African Hip Hop Awards.
