At 12 am – Monday, January 2, 2023, Burna Boy’s ‘Lagos Loves Damini’ concert, scheduled to start at 8 pm on Sunday, January 1, 2023, is yet to kick off.

Some disappointed fans, who hung around the concert venue while the technical team appeared to be setting up the sound as of 10:15 pm, told Netng that it was discouraging.

“It is very disappointing. I’ve been here since 8 pm, but nothing has started yet. I’m still expecting a great performance from Burna Boy, but the delay is disappointing”, a disgruntled fan told Netng.

Another fan says that the delay is unsatisfactory but not strange.

“As for the venue arrangement, it’s pretty good but obviously, there’s a delay. From the looks, they’re still setting up the stage and sound. But to be honest, I’m used to it because this time last year in Abuja, Burna’s band were still doing sound check too”, the fan said.

Another fan revealed that he can’t question Burna Boy because he’s a megastar.

“I feel he’s too big to be questioned. The security said Burna is the only artiste performing all night. If it was another show, another artiste would have been performing before Burna’s arrival. When he arrives, everything will be fine”, he said.

It’s 12 pm and Burna Boy’s ‘Lagos Loves Damini’ concert, scheduled to start at 7 pm, is yet to kick off.

Turning up late for shows is not a strange habit for Nigerian artistes. After he turned up late for his Birmingham show, Asake had to apologise to his fans. That came after his fans and party troopers booed him when he arrived on stage at around 11 pm.

Meanwhile, fans’ comfortability with the bare minimum from their stans has lowered the bar. It has ignited a chain reaction where show promoters and organisers do not insist that artistes put up good or prompt performances, nor do artistes themselves have to put in work since they get ‘hailed’ for doing the barest minimum. Even though they would enjoy a wonderful night of energetic performance from Burna, the calm of fans in the face of such delay goes to show just how much they allow artistes to get away with no-shows or late coming.
