Harry Kane’s goal against Wolves on Saturday, helped Tottenham retain its bright start to the season and set a new Premier League record.
Spurs battled to a 2-2 draw at Chelsea last weekend after defeating Southampton in their opening match, but they struggled to get going against a still-winless Wolves team in the first half. But, after 64 minutes, Kane met Ivan Perisic’s flick-on and nodded in from close range to reward Antonio Conte’s team for their improved play in the second half.
Kane scored that goal, his 250th for Spurs and 185th in the Premier League, the most by any player for a single club, and it was enough to give the hosts a clean sweep of the three points. With the most goals for one team in the Premier League, Kane now leads Sergio Aguero (184), the ex-Manchester City striker, who was the previous lead in the goals scored.
Spurs also became the fifth team in the Premier League to reach the 1,000-goal mark at home, after Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
In eight days, Tottenham will return to the EPL against Nottingham Forest, while Wolves will visit Preston North End on Tuesday in the second round of the EFL Cup.
