Netflix, the popular streaming service, has found itself at the heart of controversy as social media users voiced their displeasure with the company’s decision to return the film “Titanic” days after the submarine tragedy.

The platform announced on Monday that the 1997 popular film would be returning on July 1st, along with Rush Hour, Jumanji, Bridesmaids, Star Trek, and The Outlaws, among other titles.

However, because of the time, Netflix’s choice to offer “Titanic” on its site has raised eyebrows. The recent tragedy with the Titan tourist submersible, which resulted in the loss of all five people on board, has many questioning Netflix’s decision to reintroduce the film. The sinking of the submarine near the Titanic wreckage on June 18 has heightened public awareness of the sad incident.

While the addition of “Titanic” to Netflix’s list may have been planned in advance, social media users have raised worry over the company’s perceived insensitivity. Mocking remarks and amusing memes have surfaced online, implying that Netflix’s timing was tone-deaf and lacked empathy for the recent tragedy.
