The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Ekiti State, Olawale Fapohunda (SAN), has assured that the war against rape in the state will not end with the Kayode Fayemi administration.
Fapohunda said that the incoming administration of the governor-elect, Biodun Oyebanji, would sustain the Fayemi administration’s zero-tolerance for rape and other forms of sexual crimes.
The commissioner, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during a meeting with some parents of the victims of rape, said, “The zero tolerance policy for all forms of sexual violence in Ekiti State is appropriately enshrined in the criminal law of Ekiti State, thus legally sustainable by the incoming administration.
“There is absolutely no need to worry about the post-Fayemi era, the governor-elect, Biodun Oyebanji, is sufficiently aware of the crisis of rape in Ekiti State and would rather intensify than stop the fight,” the AG assured.
He expressed the concern of the state ministry of Justice over the recent spike in cases of child rape in the state as elsewhere, assuring, “the ministry will not rest on its oars until it is totally eradicated. The ministry will not cease nor reduce the tempo, except the perpetrators have a rethink and turn a new leaf.”
The AG disclosed that his office was currently prosecuting a cleric, who raped a 13-year-old girl and another person who raped eight girls all under the age of 14.
