Limited access to resources and platforms often hinders their growth and deprives the world of diverse musical talents. However, SA Hip-hop veteran and businessman, Slikour rolled his sleeves and took it upon himself to create a music distribution platform exclusively for local artists.

Speaking with SA Hip-hop Mag via The Episode Podcast, the veteran rapper shed light on what motivated him to create Distro a music distribution platform that empowers local artists. “Firstly, Distro was sitting as an idea pre-COVID, not the name. The idea to distribute the music was sitting, I was speaking with different people but no one was getting it,” he said.

Siya remarked that the concept has always been there, but it was just a matter of timing and having the right kind of people around to buy into the notion. “The vision has always been there, it’s just about the timing, the right people. So because we have uploading music for downloads on our platform, we’re like, why dont we just distribute,” he added.

Slikour, being the businessman that he is, said that the music distribution industry business comes with a lot of profits and it needs someone who cares to plan out how musicians may benefit from the platform, which he is working on.

“The gap with distribution is that distribution anyone can do it, it’s just that there are no real black companies that do it. Now I understood why I did it in a year and why there are no real black companies that do it. It’s because it creates a lot of liquid cash, that people dont claim,” he said.

“You make like maybe 20 times the amount in a weekend or 30 times the amount in a weekend. But it doesn’t mean that money is useless. How do I make the money useful for the artist? You have to care to think that way,” Slikour added.

As Slikour’s platform continues to grow and evolve, it stands as a testament to the power of individual initiative in making a positive impact on the lives of countless artists and music lovers alike.
