In what he called lacking introspective, Music Copyright Society of Kenya CEO, Ezekiel Mutua has called out musicians for creating songs that lack morals in the name of likes and follows.

Speaking on Eve Mungai media, he gave an example of songs that do not inspire but show cultural and moral decadence in society.

Ezekiel singled out Ssaru’s latest hit song ‘ Kaskie Vibaya Huko Kwenu’

Did you hear this song about a lady singing about her ex-boyfriend ‘Niko na pesa na ni ya babako, What are you telling my daughter?” He wondered.

“Niko an pesa an ni ya baba ako?” He jested.

While he did not say secular artists should not sing such, he advised that their songs should a message that doesn’t promote hate or prey on the morals of the society.

“I don’t mean that secular artists should not sing that but those are not the kind of things we want to promote as a way of life. Do not promote hate, Be the light and the peace of mind needed in the world. Rather than get likes that do not translate to wealth. Let us have an introspection,” he advised.

The song which Ssaru collaborated with Fathermoh has become a hit since its release and has amassed a total of 114,000 views on YouTube and not forgetting the viral TikTok challenges done of the same.

The song has a connotation that most people, especially women, can identify with when it comes to the controversies surrounding sugar daddies and sugar babies.

The song gives an account of a lady who left her boyfriend and ended up getting involved with his father. The lady goes further to explain that the dad finances her and even gives her his (son’s) school fees.

Ezekiel advises artistes

The MCSK boss urged artists, gospel and secular alike to be intentional about the kind of music they produce.

“Let us not focus on likes, shares, and views,” he urged

“We can use art to promote positive social values and promote a more cohesive society. Let us be intentional by creating songs that give people hope.”

He explained that musicians should strive towards creating music that inspires, motivates, educates and gives a sense of hope with entertainment being a constant factor.

Let the song help people find hope and change the course of their life,” the CEO added.
